CORONA PANDEMIC MANAGEMENT:
SCHOOL HEADS URGE PARENTS NOT TO LET CHILDREN PLAY OUTSIDE
BY P S SUNDAR
In the context of corona second wave infecting
children and experts calling for special care to protect children, Heads of
Schools in The Nilgiris have urged parents not to let their children play
outside especially with other children during the ongoing lockdown.
“Reports have it that
some 50,000 children have already been infected by this deadly disease and some
12 and 13 year olds have died in various places in the country calling for more
responsible parenting during this lockdown”, Principal of Stanes Anglo Indian
Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, Glenn Croning told me.
“We have strictly
advised parents to ensure that their children stay indoors during this
lockdown”, he said.
“As the Chief
Minister M K Stalin said, ‘this is not leave but lockdown’. The very purpose of closing the schools is
to protect children from Covid-19 but if they are let to play with other
children outside, it defeats the purpose of closing schools and exposes the
children to getting infected”, Principal of St Joseph’s Boy’s Higher Secondary
School and Academy Bro Solomon Alexander said.
“I am addressing
parents to be cautious on this”, he said.
“Recently, we took
measures to prevent some of our students from going for work as lockdown has hit
the family income but we also notice some parents letting their children play
in the open to drive away lockdown boredom”, Headmaster of Government-aided St
Antony’s Higher Secondary School Bro Dr Thomas Selvam said.
“We do not want even
a single student to suffer from corona especially due to the negligence of
parents and have warned them”, he noted.

Agree with all the heads of the institutions, what has happened currently with no classes the students are not knowing what to do at these time of crisis being locked indoors. They are most of the time on their mobiles or glued to the television sets. Some institution are yet to commence the Online classes as there are certain controversies still on the children are not attentive on this as well and normally keep their mobiles on as though they are present in the online classes etc., so a strict monitoring is required by the institutions also until the schools reopen which is a million dollar question at this time to answer. The best way is suggest each of these institutions is
ReplyDelete1. Too reach out to the parents by way of writing to them individually or mailing them enquiring and give a guideline to the parents as to how they can monitor their ward for their safe being as it would be a sort of getting in touch with the parents in one way since there is no connect between parents and the insitution.
2. The faculties can all the students batch wise and have conference call enquiring their well being.
3. The students can be formed into batches and assigned certain project works to be given online to the institutes as there is no classes, which would keep them engaged.
4. Parents also need to give a performance of their ward and report to the institution.
In this manner if all jointly work towards this will there be a connect and thus we can try to control the movement of children outside. Do not know how much practical this would work out to as it is all in the interest of the safety of our children. Sharing my thoughts with good intentions.
thanks, Jerry .. P S SUNDAR..

ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Bro Solomon..
DeleteMuch needed. It is a difficult time for children who miss their friends and routine activities. Adults must help children by encouraging hobbies ,learning new skills, reading ( starting with the newspaper ). Children must call their friends, relatives elderly family members so they keep socially connected and stay related. But stay home and stay safe !
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Daniella..
